Mark N Tompkins

Mark N Tompkins studied modern ballet since the early age of eight, under his mother Catherine's direction. He has studied at the School of American Ballet. Mark Tompkins, an off-beat promoter of gender transfiguration, likes to define himself as a self-taught man on a continual quest. This atypical performer explores the least foibles and ambiguities of mankind. Throughout his career Mark N Tompkins sec studded with astonishing projects, he has continued to explore the marginal, the borderline, be it in the social context or the performance world. Tompkins boasts a collection of awards including:

  • the “Bourse Lavoisier,” a scholarship award from the French Ministry of Culture
  • the “Prix de Lausanne”
  • the Mae L. Wien Award for Outstanding Promise
  • the United States Artists Wynn Fellowship
  • the Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Ministry of Culture

By the Spring of 2001, Tompkins was promoted to the rank of Principal Dancer in the New York City Ballet.
